In 1958, Danny and the Juniors told us 鈥淩ock and Roll is Here to Stay,鈥 and by the 1970s, punk had celebrated the triumvirate of 鈥渟ex, drugs, and rock-and-roll.鈥 Guest Sean Kay says rock and roll played a more substantial role in the history of the last half-century. It changed America and spread the values of freedom, equality, human rights and peace across the globe.

Sean Kay is an international relations expert from Ohio Wesleyan University, where he is a professor in the Department of Politics and Government specializing in international politics, international security, international organizations, and U.S. foreign and defense policy. Dr. Kay is also the author of Rockin鈥 the Free World! How the Rock & Roll Revolution Changed America and the World (Rowman & Littlefield, 2016).

Story in the Public Square鈥 airs on Rhode Island PBS in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts on Sundays at 11 a.m. and is rebroadcast Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. An audio version of the program airs Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. & 6:30 p.m. ET and Sundays at 1:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. ET on SiriusXM鈥檚 popular P.O.T.U.S. (Politics of the United States), channel 124. "Story in the Public Square" is a partnership between the Pell Center and The Providence Journal. The initiative aims to study, celebrate, and tell stories that matter.
