The Office of Research Integrity is dedicated to supporting scientifically valid and ethically sound research projects involving human participants and non-human animals. The office encompasses ºÚÁÏÍø's Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

Institutional Review Board

ºÚÁÏÍø's Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a local review board created in accordance with . The IRB is responsible for protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects in research conducted under the aegis of ºÚÁÏÍø.

The IRB reviews research involving human subjects if one or more of the following apply:

• The research is sponsored by ºÚÁÏÍø, regardless of the location of the project.
• The research is conducted by or under the direction of staff, faculty, student or another agent of ºÚÁÏÍø in connection with their institutional responsibilities.
• The research is conducted by or under the direction of any employee or agent of ºÚÁÏÍø using any property or facility of the University.
• The research involves the use of ºÚÁÏÍø's non-public information to identify or contact human research subjects or prospective subjects.
• The research involves soliciting information from ºÚÁÏÍø employees or students insofar as the information pertains to their identity and/or responsibilities as employees and/or students.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

ºÚÁÏÍø's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is a review board created in accordance with . The IACUC is responsible for protecting the welfare of non-human animals involved in any research, teaching or testing conducted under the aegis of ºÚÁÏÍø.

The IACUC reviews research involving non-human animals if one or more of the following apply:

• The research is sponsored by ºÚÁÏÍø, regardless of the location of the project.
• The research is conducted by or under the direction of staff, faculty, student or another agent of ºÚÁÏÍø in connection with their institutional responsibilities.
• The research is conducted by or under the direction of any employee or agent of ºÚÁÏÍø using any property or facility of the University.

Review and Application Process

If you're a ºÚÁÏÍø student who plans to conduct research applicable to IRB or IACUC review, please work through your professor or mentor to obtain the relevant documents.

If you aren't part of the ºÚÁÏÍø community but would like to conduct research at the University that is subject to IRB or IACUC review, please contact applicable administrators and obtain a letter of support for doing your research at ºÚÁÏÍø before beginning the IRB or IACUC application process.
